A surprise trip to Chicago. There was no rhyme or reason for the journey; we just decided one late Thursday afternoon that we’d head to the Windy City Friday afternoon. OK, so that isn’t entirely accurate. I received an invite to attend this year’s Chicago Toy & Game Fair and when I mentioned it to Brandon he asked if I was going to go. I told him that I didn’t know yet. He mentioned how we had a good time in the Windy City last year and said, “Let’s go this weekend!”.
It just happens that I had a review car during this time, so I had to check with them to be sure it would be OK. After getting the go-ahead, we booked our trip. Booking the trip consisted of booking the hotel, which took all of like a minute because we knew where we were going to stay. We left for the Windy City around 3:15 on Friday. We didn’t have anything planned for the visit, other than going to the Field Museum for the boys to see Dinosaurs again. This year was much nicer because Xavier was able to enjoy the visit. It was cold, but it was fun!
Having a Blast Visiting Chicago on a Whim
We decided to take a walk through the Windy City. We packed up the boys and walk from the Hyatt Regency Hotel at McCormick place to Chicago Waffle for breakfast and then from there we headed to “The Bean”. It was a super cold walk, and we got a little wet, but the boys enjoyed the outcome.
The Field Museum
Our next stop was at the Field Museum. Since it was so cold, we decided to call upon Uber to drive us there.
We then went back to the hotel for a short break and then headed back out. This is where we took a trip to Navy Pier where we did a little tourist shopping. We also got the boys some stuffed animals from Build-a-Bear. Back to the hotel where we stayed for the rest of the night and headed on back home Sunday morning.

This looks like so much fun! I have not been to Chicago in quite some time and your trip inspired me to go back
It was a fun trip and I wish we could have stayed longer….guess we’ll have to make another trip!
Fun, fun! Looks like you had a wonderful time. I love Chicago. Haven’t been there in a long time. I want to take my girls to the American Doll Museum!
We can’t go this year because of to many birthdays and close to Christmas. Ugh, would love to hit Shedd or American Girl Doll Store. ;)
We love Chicago and we were just there a couple of weeks ago!
We don’t get to Chicago as much as I’d like. My son has been asking us to go for a visit to Legoland lately
I love Chicago! I have been wanting to go and take my kids to the museum! They would love the dinosaurs, as I’m sure your guys did! Looks like it was a great trip!
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! I would love to go there one day
The museum looks like a lot of fun to take the kids. We have been to Chicago a few times and always love touring around and visiting new places. Lots of fun stuff to see.
